ABC Award Presentation Aug 2016

Intertech Flooring Receives Two Excellence Awards

(August 10, 2016 – AUSTIN, Texas) – Intertech Commercial Flooring, an award-winning provider of commercial flooring products, installation and maintenance throughout Texas and the Southwest, added to its long list of awards with recognition this summer for two recent projects in Austin and San Antonio.

The Associated Builders and Contractors – South Texas Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards were presented Aug. 5 for Intertech’s work on the One Frost Bank Campus and The University of Texas McCombs School of Business. The Excellence in Construction Awards honor members’ most innovative and high-quality construction projects, safety programs and diversity programs.

The One Frost Bank Campus in San Antonio was a 300,000-sq.ft.project encompassing multiple buildings and parking garages. Designed by Marmon Mok, the project featured carefully selected interior finishes that brought the structurally impressive building to an entirely new level of grandeur.  Intertech partnered with general contractor Spaw Glass on the project.

“This beautiful corporate construction project ranks among the finest we have had the honor to work on in our 28 years of commercial flooring experience,” said Mark Jones, Intertech vice president of San Antonio operations. “Our work included everything from access flooring and carpet, to resilient and ceramic tile flooring.”

“While the floor finishes look absolutely incredible, a truly impressive piece of our work cannot be seen,” Jones noted, pointing out the raised access flooring and underfloor data and airflow system installed in parts of the building. Raised access flooring provides flexible and easy access to underfloor air, power, voice and data solutions. In addition, access flooring can reduce energy use, lower building costs and provide employees with more comfortable surroundings.

Intertech Commercial Flooring’s work with Alpha Building Corporation to resolve a problematic flooring issue in the University Teaching Center at The University of Texas-Austin McCombs School of Business garnered the second ABC award.

Terrazzo flooring on hallways two stories below-grade faced moisture penetration of the substrate, causing the existing terrazzo to bubble and lift from the floor. Alpha turned to Intertech to engineer a solution. The old floor had to come up, a moisture barrier was applied and Intertech poured self-leveling underlayment through its Laticrete SUPERCAP® system to quickly and efficiently resolve the moisture and flatness issues on the project. Using the Intertech SUPERCAP® pump truck system, the only thing that goes in the building is a hose. The cementitious underlayment is mixed in the truck and pumped into the project area where it self-levels and meets all requirements, including flatness, moisture control and OSHA’s new rule of reducing silica dust on construction job sites.

“As the exclusive, full-service SUPERCAP provider in Texas, Intertech has been demonstrating dramatic improvement in the speed and quality of concrete finishing and moisture mitigation over older traditional methods, and this project was another great example of that,” said Terry Bessire, vice president of Austin operations. “We were honored to be able to partner with Alpha and Laticrete to turn this client’s flooring challenge into a beautiful, functional space.”
