Intertech Begins Work on Massive Kalahari Project

It’s been a couple of years in the coming, but the Intertech Flooring team soon will be starting its work on the massive Kalahari Resort project in Round Rock.

In December, we begin installation on this impressive Hensel Phelps project across from the Dell Diamond on Hwy. 79. The resort property includes a water park, 975 guest rooms, 200,000-plus square feet of meeting space, 50,000 square feet of outdoor event space, and 19 restaurants.

Intertech’s flooring expertise will be seen throughout the complex, from the hotel guest rooms to the restaurants, indoor water park and all the adjacent buildings.

We recently caught up with Billy Chrzan, Intertech’s project manager on this job, to get some insights on the project.

Design Consultation, Creative Options

“The bidding process took over two years, and during that time, we helped them all along the way to design flooring and price out products,” says Billy. “In the end, it was Intertech’s reputation that earned us the award on this job.”

For such a unique design vision, Intertech’s ability to deliver products from virtually every manufacturer was a bonus.  Billy’s team will be installing custom Interface and Mirage hardwood designs in the restaurants; and slip-resistant vinyl Protect-All® flooring throughout the indoor water park and in all restaurant kitchens. In the rest of the project, we’re incorporating Mohawk, Shaw and Milliken custom-designed carpet, and Johnsonite, Roppe and Polyflor  LVT.

Unique Designs, Challenging Installations

“There’s nothing like it anywhere else in Texas,” he says. “The project has a very African theme; the carpet looks like leopard in the corridors with original alligator skin and leopard designs. And the custom wood floors are beautiful.”

For a flooring company that thrives on unique and challenging installations, Intertech couldn’t be better suited for the task at hand. “Nothing is a typical run of the mill floor option that could be picked from a book. It is almost all custom-designed to Kalahari using multiple manufacturers’ products and custom wood companies,” he says.

The expected completion date for the Round Rock Kalahari Resort is November 2020.
