Tobin Center for the Performing Arts- San Antonio A Standing Ovation, Please.

TobinCenter_UpperLobbyThree of our recent projects took home top honors in the 17th Annual Starnet Design Awards, one of the flooring industry’s most prestigious competitions to recognize the best and brightest in flooring design.  The Starnet awards are the flooring industry’s version of the Academy Awards! This is the third in our series showcasing these exciting projects.

With the opening of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts on San Antonio’s Riverwalk, the nation’s seventh-largest city gained a versatile, world-class performing arts facility. Intertech’s work on this show-stopping project was recognized with a national Starnet Silver Design Award in the hospitality/public space category. The Starnet Awards are one of the flooring industry’s most prestigious competitions.

TobinCenter_Wait-AreaDesign firm Marmon Mok combined the historical preservation of one of San Antonio’s most beloved architectural icons – the historic Municipal Auditorium – with one of the most flexible multipurpose performance halls in the USA. Together, the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts embraces the multifaceted cultural identity of the city with a complex tapestry of form, materiality, light and landscape.

Intertech’s San Antonio project team created interior spaces that reflect the city’s rich vernacular of color, patter and public celebrations. Architectural and design details draw inspiration from the Spanish colonial style. Among the Starnet preferred vendors featured on this project are Antron Carpet Fiber, ARDEX Americas, Armstrong Commercial Flooring, Bentley, Bigelow Commercial Carpet, Tarkett | Johnsonite, Karastan Contract Carpets, MAPEI – APAC, Milliken Commercial, and Tandus Centiva.  Aspirations for this project were threefold: to create a large, flexible, multiuse performance space; to restore the iconic historical building for future generations; and to create a vibrant connection between the city’s main cultural venue and the Riverwalk.
